REVIVING A HISTORIC

ROOFSCAPE

Drapers Yard was originally built in 1840 as a flax mill and an early example of green roof design in Leeds.

Following significant investment, the site has been transformed into the Fortrea Clinical Trials Facility, combining heritage with a modern, ecological approach.

The project centred on creating a high quality roof garden and formal landscape that supports both patients and employees within a dense urban setting. The gardens provide space for wellbeing, recreation and social interaction, with carefully designed planting and seating areas overlooking the city skyline.

Designed with safety, low maintenance and long term performance in mind, the finished landscape delivers a calm, contemporary environment that enhances both the building’s purpose and its historic character.
